MUMBAI: The city police on Tuesday clarified that 'no police NOC' is required to rent out your house to anyone. Meanwhile, the senior officials made it mandatory to submit the details of tenants to the local police station.
"This step has been taken to make the procedure easier for the tenants/owners. There were many complaints about estate agents who would spread words that police NOC is required and many times we learnt that they take money for these things. However, we never sought any NOC. We just want a tenant's information to be submitted with the police," said Deven Bharti, joint commissioner of police, responsible for city's law and order. Many who want to get a house on rent will heave a sigh of relief with police's plan. "If you have a tenant or your get a flat/room on rent, you can simply send us the details either in person, by courier, through registered post etc. The confusion has been created by the estate agents," added Bharti.
The cops have also issued a format for submission of information. Police require information about the flat/room owner's name, address and contact numbers, address of the rented property, tenant's name, previous address, native place address, contact numbers, email address, photo identification, one passport sized photo, address of his/her work place and a letter of verification from the employer. The police has this time also sought information about the agent like his/her name and all contact details (if the property is rented through an agent).
