NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation general body on Monday passed the administration's new proposal to implement Rs 34,604 crore City Development Plan (CDP).
Mayor Datke told TOI the new plan would be implemented in two parts. Most of the works have been proposed in short term plan up to 2012 while the rest are in long term plan up to 2041. The development projects worth Rs 27,350 crore are proposed under the short term plan while projects worth Rs 7,253 crore are under the long term plan. He said now the civic body would send the proposal to the state and central governments. He said that it would be implemented phasewise so arranging funds for it won't be a problem.
The House also cleared a proposal to regularize farmers' convention centre constructed by Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV) in illegal manner. PDKV had constructed the centre on a sprawling 2,212 sq mt land adjacent to North Ambazari Road, near University Library Square in 2007. It had also constructed another structure on 1,006 sq mt land behind the centre.
Datke explained that the centre was constructed for organizing farmers' convention and it was not for any commercial purposes. "So the municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar using his discretionary powers in Development Control Regulations will regularize the construction," he added.
The House also gave its nod to administration's proposal to increase number of fire stations from eight to 13, though the establishment records of the NMC show city as having only five stations. The House also approved increase of fire and emergency department manpower from 411 to 617. Even though the NMC in the past declared the ground water unsafe for consumption, the House cleared the proposal to dig over 300 borewells in the city.
The House also gave its nod to bifurcate NMC's property tax department into two tax assessment and tax collection. Datke, however, denied there was any move to privatize the department. He claimed the move was initiated to increase revenue.
