New Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Chief Ajoy Mehta on Saturday carried out a review meeting, where he discussed some key issues of the hour. During the meeting he said, he has started analysing the draft Development Plan 2034 and is rectifying the flaws and loopholes in the plan.
As per the sources BMC is planning to bring out a clear roadmap of action by Tuesday. During his first week as commissioner Ajoy Mehta has conducted two meeting with the DP Department to implement necessary steps to rectify the draft.
BMC will analysis the flaws in reservations, arbitrary new roads and errors in zoning in the blueprint and create a list of errors pointed out by residents and activists and digitise these before beginning the process of revision. The suggestions and objections filed by residents were also discussed in a meeting.
The commissioner has also dumped the two private agencies involved in drafting the DP, Mehta refused to elaborate on the matter. The contract for drafting the plan had been awarded to SCE Ltd after a tendering process two years ago, with the company then subcontracting the work to Aegis, which itself reportedly entered into a joint venture with another private firm named Memoris.
The consortium was responsible for digitally marking locations on the maps, which is where the large majority of errors have been pointed out by residential associations and experts. A BMC official said, “Several issues related to the plan were discussed in the meeting.
The commissioner is laying down modalities to undertake the process in four months. However, no specific decision has been passed yet in relation to the two private firms.”
