Sensex down 100 points in early trade on profit-booking

BAI: The benchmark BSE sensex fell by over 100 points in early trade on Friday due to profit-booking by investors after recent gains amid weak cues from Asian markets.

The 30-share barometer fell by 100.77 points or 0.39% to 25,703.01, with indices — IT, auto, consumer durable, metal and bank — leading the fall.

The index had gained 759.35 points in the last four sessions.

Also, the NSE Nifty was trading lower by 35.10 points or 0.44% at 7,809.35.Brokers said that apart from profit-booking in recent gainers, weak trend at other Asian bourses, tracking overnight losses at the US markets, mainly influenced the sentiment.


In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was quoting lower by 0.23% and Shanghai Composite was down 0.12% in early trade. Japan's Nikkei shed 0.24%.

Sensex sheds over 400 on profit-booking; Nifty below 7,700-mark

The benchmark BSE Sensex tumbled over 400 points and the NSE Nifty fell below 7,700-mark in early trade as investors preferred to book profits after two-session rally on worries over likely delay in Goods and Services Tax.
Capital outflows by foreign funds and a weak trend in other Asian markets also weighed.
The 30-share barometer tanked 402.98 points or 1.57% to 25,316.60. The index had rallied by 825.77 points in the previous two sessions.


All the sectoral indices, led by realty, metal, consumer durables and power were trading in the negative zone.The NSE index Nifty crashed below the crucial 7,700-mark by plunging 130.55 points or 1.67% to 7,688.05.
Brokers said besides profit-booking by speculators and sustained capital outflows by foreign funds, likely delay in the implementation of key GST after the government yesterday gave up plans to reconvene a session of Parliament dampened sentiments.
The government had kept the Monsoon Session alive in hopes of building a consensus on GST, which has been billed as one of the biggest economic reform.
Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei was trading 3% down, Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 2.36% and Shanghai Composite index was down 0.97% in early trade on Thursday.

Reliance Industries' shares down over 1% on profit-booking

Shares of Reliance Industries fell by over 1% on profit-taking amid an overall weak broader market even as the company reported highest quarterly profit in seven-and-a-half years on strong refining and petrochemical margins. 

The stock opened the day on a positive note but later fell by 1.24% to Rs 1,012.25 on BSE. 
At the NSE, shares of the company were down 1.31% to Rs 1,011.55. 
On Friday, RIL had reported a standalone net profit of Rs 6,318 crore or Rs 19.5 per share in April-June quarter, which  was 11.8 per cent higher than Rs 5,649 crore or Rs 17.5 a share in the same period a year ago.The first quarter profit in the current financial year 2015-16 was highest since earning in October-December 2007. 
Revenue fell 26 per cent to Rs 77,130 crore, hurt by a sharp fall in prices of crude oil and petroleum products, the company had said in a statement. 
Consolidated net profit rose 4.4% to Rs 6,222 crore in April-June quarter of the current fiscal as against Rs 5,957 crore a year ago, the statement said. 
In the broader market, the BSE Sensex was quoting 326.60 points down at 27,760.89.

Sensex down over 300 points on profit-booking

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex fell over 302 points in early trade on Thursday to slip below the 27,000 level as stocks of banking, realty, healthcare, IT, metal and auto companies succumbed to profit booking by speculators, giving up most of yesterday's gains amid a mixed trend at other Asian bourses.

The 30-share index slipped below the 27,000 mark by falling 302.48 points, or 1.10 per cent, to 26,948.62. The gauge had gained 373.62 points in the previous session. 

In a similar fashion, the NSE index Nifty dipped below the 8,200-mark by losing 98.15 points, or 1.19 per cent, to 8,137.30. 


Brokers said profit-booking by participants in stocks that recorded handsome gains in Wednesday's trade and a mixed trend at other Asian markets tracking overnight losses at US markets following a disappointing retail sales report dampened sentiment. 

Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong Hang Seng was up 0.19 per cent while Japan's Nikkie shed 0.55 per cent in early trade on Thursday. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.04 per cent lower in Wednesday's trade.
