Rupee gains 19 paise against dollar

MUMBAI: The rupee rose by 19 paise at 65.77 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange after the Reserve Bank cut interest rates by 0.50 per cent on Tuesday.

Forex dealers said besides a higher opening in domestic equity market, the dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas, supported the rupee. 

The domestic currency had gained nine paise to close at 65.96 against the US currency in Tuesday's trade on persistent selling of dollars by banks and exporters amid sustained capital inflows. 




Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex jumped 265.94 points, or 1.03 per cent, at 26,044.60 in early trade on Wednesday.

Rupee ends at 66.05 vs dollar, recovers 11 paise

MUMBAI: Snapping its four-day losing streak, the rupee on Monday recovered by 11 paise to end at 66.05 against the dollar on selling of the American currency by banks and exporters amid fall in domestic equities.

The rupee resumed higher at 66.11 per dollar against the last close of 66.16 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market. 

It gained further on bouts of dollar selling to 66.01 before ending at 66.05, showing a gain of 11 paise. It hovered in a range of 66.01 and 66.15 per dollar during the day. 

In global markets, the US dollar was up against the basket of currencies in Asian trade amid relatively uneventful weekend with the dollar showing potential for gains if upcoming data strengthen the case for a hike in interest rates this year. 

The dollar index was up by 0.13 per cent as against a basket of six currencies. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex ended lower by 246.66 points or 0.95 per cent on Monday.

Rupee plunges to 66.16 vs dollar, down 18 paise

MUMBAI: Hit by month-end dollar demand from importers, the rupee today dropped by another 18 paise against the American currency to close at 66.16, extending losses for the fourth straight day, amid mixed global cues

Sustained foreign capital outflows also affected the market. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,330.12 crore yesterday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. 

The rupee resumed sharply lower at 66.20 per dollar as against overnight level of 65.98 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market. It hovered in a range of 66.2725 to 66.0350 per dollar during the day, before ending at 66.16 per dollar, showing a loss of 18 paise or 0.27 per cent. 

The rupee has dropped by 49 paise or 0.75 per cent in four days. 

The dollar index was down by 0.40 per cent as against a basket of six currencies. 

In global market, the yen rose today in Asia because market participants sought safety amid global economic uncertainty and ahead of a speech by US Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen. 

Concerns continued about a global economic slowdown and uncertainty over the timing of the US central bank's potential interest rate increases. 

Pramit Brahmbhatt, Veracity Group CEO said," Today also Rupee depreciated for the fourth consecutive day & weakened more than quarter percent to trade comfortably over 66 levels, as month end dollar demand from oil importers forced Rupee to trade low & to end the day it closed at 66.16.

Rupee slips from 1-month high, falls 21 paise against dollar

MUMBAI: The rupee slipped from a one-month high by depreciating 21 paise to 65.88 against the dollar at the interbank foreign exchange in early trade on Monday on foreign funds outflows amid fresh demand for the American currency from importers.

Forex dealers said a lower opening of the domestic equity market also weighed, but dollar's weakness against other currencies capped the losses. 

The rupee had surged 79 paise — its biggest single-day gain so far this year — to settle at the one-month high of 65.67 on Friday following heavy selling of the greenback after worries over US interest rate hike abated.Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE sensex dipped below the 26,000-mark by slumping 220.24 points, or 0.84 per cent, to 25,998.67 in early trade.

Rupee strengthens 32 paise against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee strengthened by 32 paise to 66.14 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange after the American currency tumbled against major world currencies as the Federal Reserve decided again not to increase interest rates.

Besides, increased selling of dollar by exporters and banks and a higher opening in the domestic equity market supported the rupee, dealers said. 

The rupee had slipped 10 paise to end at 66.46 in the previous session on Wednesday on persistent demand for the American currency from banks and importers on the back of a higher greenback in overseas markets. Forex market was closed on Thursday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex surged 315.96 points, or 1.22 per cent, to trade at 26,279.93.

Rupee weakens 11 paise against dollar

MUMBAI: The rupee depreciated another 11 paise to 66.47 against the dollar in early trade on Wednesday on foreign fund soutflows amid a significant slump in the country's exports.

Besides, persistent demand for the dollar from importers also weighed, but the dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas and early gains in stock markets capped the rupee's losses, forex dealers said. 

Contracting for the ninth month in a row, India's exports plunged 20.66 per cent in August to USD 21.26 billion, widening the trade deficit. The rupee had ended marginally lower three paise at 66.36 against the US dollar in Tuesday's trade on fresh demand for the American currency from banks and importers. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex surged 207.21 points, or 0.80 per cent, to 25,913.14 in early trade.

Rupee declines 5 paise against dollar in early trade

Rupee gains 14 paise against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee recovered 14 paise to 66.40 against the dollar in early trade on Monday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on fresh selling of the US currency by exporters and banks amid positive economic data.

Forex dealers said that besides selling of the American currency, a higher opening in the domestic equity market and weakness of the dollar against other currencies supported the rupee. 

On Friday, the rupee had lost 11 paise at 66.54 against the US dollar on sustained demand for the American currency from banks and importers amid a higher greenback overseas. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose 96.66 points, or 0.38 per cent, to 25,706.87 in early trade on Monday.

Rupee closes 11 paise lower at 66.54 vs dollar

MUMBAI: Extending losses for the second straight session, therupee slipped by 11 paise at 66.54 against the dollar on sustained demand for the American currency from banks and importers amidst a higher greenback overseas.

Besides, persistent foreign capital outflows affected the rupee sentiment. 

The local currency resumed higher at 66.34 as against Thursday's level of 66.43 at the interbank foreign exchange (forex) market and moved up further to 66.32 on initial selling of dollars by banks and exporters. However, it washed out initial gains and dropped to 66.58 before concluding at 66.54, showing a loss of 11 paise, or 0.16 per cent. 

The rupee has dropped 13 paise, or 0.19 per cent, in the two trading sessions. 

It hovered in a range of 66.32 and 66.58 during the day. 

According to forex dealers, the dollar's strength will keep the rupee under pressure as investors are expected to trade cautiously and square off their positions ahead of the weekend. 

The dollar index was up by 0.10 per cent against a basket of six currencies in the afternoon trade.

In the global market, the dollar extended gains against the Japanese yen for the third session but was mostly range-bound ahead of next week's highly anticipated Federal open market committee meeting. 

The Federal Reserve policy-makers are set to begin their next two-day meeting on Wednesday. Some market strategists and economists believe they could vote to raise interest rates next week, while others expect them to hold off. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE sensex gained 11.96 points, or 0.05 per cent, to close at 25,610.21.

Rupee trims initial losses; still down by 20 paise vs dollar

MUMBAI: The rupee trimmed its initial losses but was still down by 20 paise to 66.61 against the greenback on weak domestic equities and sustained dollar demand from importers amid higher dollar overseas.

The domestic unit gave up its overnight gains and resumed sharply lower at 66.72 per dollar as against Wednesday's level of 66.41 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market. 

It hovered in a range of 66.60 to 66.76 during the morning deals before quoting 66.61 at 1030 hrs.The dollar index is currently up 0.02 per cent at 95.96 against a basket of six currencies. 

Crude oil prices fell in early Asian trade as weak Japanese and Chinese economic data fuelled concerns that low levels of investment could further erode already slow growth in Asia. 

In New York, the dollar trimmed early gains against the yen and the euro yesterday, but remained higher against both even as falling Treasury yields dulled the dollar's luster. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex was trading down by 326 points or 1.27 per cent at 25,393.53 at 1035-hrs.

Rupee trims initial gains, still up by 17 paise against dollar

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee trimmed initial gains but was still trading up by 17 paise to 66.38 against the US currency on bouts of dollar selling by some banks and exporters.

The domestic unit resumed sharply higher at 66.38 per dollar as against yesterday's level of 66.55 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market. 

It hovered in a range of 66.26 to 66.42 durinThe rupee had strengthened against the US dollar after touching an intra-day high of 66.80 yesterday due to selling by custodial banks and some buying from PSBs to meet the oil demand." a forex dealer said. 

"The rupee will take cues from the equity market and is expected to trade in a range of 66.42-66.72 per dollar," he added. 

The dollar index is currently up 0.25% at 96.11 against a basket of six currencies. 

Oil prices edged higher in quiet Asian early trade as dealers set aside weak Chinese trade data and looked ahead to the release of a US stockpiles report, analysts said. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE sensex was trading higher by 346 points or 1.37% to 25,664.19 at 1030 hrs.g the morning deals before quoting 66.38 at 1030 hrs.

Rupee recovers 8 paise against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee recovered by 8 paise to 66.74 against thedollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange in early trade today, snapping its three-day losing streak on fresh selling of the US currency by banks and exporters.

Dealers said fresh selling of the US currency by exporters and banks as well as weakening of dollar against other currencies overseas supported the domestic currency. 

Recovery in domestic stock markets also helped rupee strengthen against the dollar, they added. 
The rupee had plunged by 36 paise to settle at two-year low of 66.82 against the American currency yesterday on persistent dollar demand from banks and importers due to sustained foreign capital outflows. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex today regained the 25,000-mark by rebounding 118.37 points or 0.47 per cent to trade at 25,012.18 in opening trade.

Rupee weakens 17 paise against dollar

Rupee closes 22 paise lower vs dollar

MUMBAI: Continuing to fall for the second consecutive day, the rupee declined by 22 paise to settle at 66.46 against thedollar on persistent demand for the American currency from banks and importers amidst foreign capital outflows.

Besides, a sharp fall in equity markets affected the rupee value against the dollar. 

The rupee opened higher at 66.16 against yesterday's closing level of 66.24 at the interbank foreign exchange ( forex) market and firmed up further to 66.10 on initial dollar selling by banks. 
However, it declined sharply to 66.52 on fresh demand for dollars from banks and importers before concluding at 66.46, showing a loss of 22 paise, or 0.33 per cent. 

The rupee has dropped 27 paise, or 0.41 per cent, in two days. 

It moved in a range of 66.10 and 66.52 during the day. 

Globally, the dollar was higher against its major rivals in early Asian trade after the European Central Bank gave a sobering assessment of the Eurozone economy and suggested that it may have to beef up its already massive stimulus programme. 

However, the US dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six major rivals, was up by 0.15 per cent. 

Oil prices edged lower in cautious Asian trade today as investors await the release of a US jobs report for August that could determine the Federal Reserve's time-table for hiking interest rates. 

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE sensex tumbled by 562.88 points, or 2.18 per cent, to settle at 25,201.90 today.

Rupee gains 14 paise against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee strengthened by 14 paise to 66.10 against the dollar in early trade on fresh selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

The rupee had closed down by 5 paise at 66.24 against dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange o Thusrday. 

Exporters and banks selling the US currency supported the rupee in early trade, dealers said, adding that the dollar's weakness against major world currencies also strengthened the rupee sentiment. Domestic equity markets opened with losses which capped the rupee gains, they said. 

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 227.25 points, or 0.88 per cent, to 25,537.53 in early trade.

Rupee weakens 7 paise against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee depreciated 7 paise to 66.26 against the dollar in early trade on Thursday on foreign fund outflows amid appreciation in the US currency overseas.

Rupee strengthens 8 paise against dollar in early trade

Rupee recovers 10 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee had lost 34 paise to close at one-week low of 66.48 against the US dollar on Monday on persistent month-end demand for the American currency from importers. The benchmark BSE Sensex slipped below the crucial 26,000 mark by plunging 298.81 points, or 1.13 per cent, to 25,984.81 in early trade on Tuesday.

Rupee marginally up at 66.02 against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee recovered marginally by two paise to 66.02 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday amid gains in stock markets.

Rupee higher 26 paise against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The rupee recovered by 26 paise to 65.88 against the US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade on Thursday on selling of the American currency.

Forex dealers said besides selling of the American currency by exporters and banks, weakness in the dollar against other currencies supported the rupee. 

Further, domestic equity markets opening on strong note also influenced the rupee uptrend, they added. The rupee had lost 4 paise versus the dollar to end at 66.14 in the previous session on renewed dollar demand from importers amid global volatility. 

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 455.73 points, or 1.77 per cent, to 26,170.39 in early trade today.
