Sensex opens 100 points down, Nifty below 7,750

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE sensex slipped over 100 points in morning trade on Monday, led by losses in Infosys, HDFC, ONGC, TCS, Tata Motors, and HDFC Bank.

The Nifty50 was down below its crucial psychological level of 7,750, weighed down by losses in IT, metal, oil & gas, and realty stocks. 

The shares of Coal India slipped over 2 per cent after rallying up to 2% in early trade, the company reported its Q2 earnings post market hours on Friday. Meanwhile, Vedanta, CIpla and Hindalco shares tumbled up to 4 per cent.

Sensex down 156 points; Nifty below 8,200

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex tanked over 156 points and the NSE Nifty dipped below the 8,200-level in early trade on Wednesday due to sustained selling by participants amid mixed Asian cues.

Caution ahead of expiry of October month contracts in the derivatives segment tomorrow also influenced sentiments.

The 30-share barometer was down by 156.11 points or 0.57 per cent to 27,097.33 in early trade.The index had lost 217.37 points in the previous two straight sessions.

All the sectoral indices led by banking, realty and capital goods were trading in the negative zone, falling up to 0.94 per cent.

The NSE Nifty slipped below the 8,200-mark by losing 51.90 points or 0.63 per cent to 8,181.00 in early trade.

Brokers said continued selling by investors, taking cues from weak Asian markets following overnight losses at the US markets ahead of a policy statement from the Federal Reserve dampened sentiments here.

Investors are awaiting the US Federal Reserve's policy statement which could provide clues about the timing of an interest rate hike.

Among Asian markets, Shanghai composite was quoting 0.91 per cent lower, Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.72 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei up by 0.60 per cent in early trade on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.24 per cent lower in Tuesday's trade.

Sensex advances 147 pts, Nifty above 8,300 on firm Asian cues

MUMBAI : The benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 147 points while the NSE Nifty regained 8,300-mark in early trade on Monday on sustained foreign funds inflows amid a firming Asian cues.

Better-than-expected earnings by telecom major Bharti Airtel also influenced sentiment. 

The 30-share index, which had gained 183.15 points in the previous session, surged by 147.33 points, or 0.53 per cent, to 27,618.14 points in early trade. Among major gainers, Larsen and Toubro, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Hindalco, Hero MotoCorp and ICICI Bank rose up to 1.5 per cent. 

All the sectoral indices led by metals, IT and auto were trading in the positive zone with gains up to 0.85 per cent. 

The National Stock Exchange's index Nifty reclaimed the 8,300-mark by rising 40.85 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 8,336.30. 

Brokers said continued buying by funds and retailers amid a firming trend at other Asian markets after Chinese interest rate cut on Friday buoyed sentiments here. 

Japan's Nikkei moved up by 1.21 per cent, Hong Kong rose 0.25 per cent and Shanghai index 0.79 per cent. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.90 per cent higher in Friday's trade.

Sensex rebounds 261 pts in early trade, Nifty above 8,300

MUMBAI : Stock market benchmark BSE Sensex climbed over 261 points and the NSE Nifty reclaimed the 8,300 mark in early trade on Friday, snapping its two-session losing streak, on positive cues from other Asian markets.

Inflows from foreign funds and widespread buying by investors also influenced market sentiment. 

The 30-share barometer was up 261.13 points, or 0.96 per cent, to trade at 27,548.79 with all the sectoral indices led by oil & gas, consumer durables, PSU and banking trading in positive terrain with gains up to 1.25 per cent. The Sensex had lost 77.26 points in the previous two sessions. Stock exchanges were closed yesterday on account of Dussehra. 

Tata Steel, GAIL, NTPC, Vedanta Ltd, ITC and ONGC were major gainers that supported the rally. 

The NSE Nifty too recaptured the crucial 8,300-mark by surging 73.35 points, or 0.89 per cent, to trade at 8,325.05 

Brokers said buying by foreign funds and retail investors tracking a firming trend in other Asian markets following overnight gains in Europe and the US after ECB chief signalled more stimulus before the end of the year buoyed mood here. 

Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei was up by 2.35 per cent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.41 per cent in early trade today. Shanghai Composite edged higher 0.31 per cent. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.87 per cent higher on Thursday.

Sensex up 225 pts in opening trade, Infosys surges 4.37%

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex rose over 225 points in early trade after Infosys posted 9.75 per cent growth in its second quarter earnings amid a firming trend at other Asian markets.

Besides, optimistic buying by participants ahead of key macroeconomic data IIP and inflation, to be released later in the day, also influenced sentiment, brokers said. 

The 30-share index rose by 225.53 points or 0.83 per cent to 27,305.04, with stocks of metal, IT, teck, FMCG, pharma and auto sectors leading the rise. The gauge had gained 233.70 points in Friday's session. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty edged higher by 54.80 points, or 0.66 per cent, to 8,244.50. 

Shares of Infosys rallied by 4.37 per cent to Rs 1,219 in opening trade after company posted 9.75 per cent rise in its second quarter net profit to Rs 3,398 crore. 

Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.29 per cent, while Shanghai Compositie index rose 3.43 per cent in early trade on Monday. Financial markets in Japan are closed Monday for a national holiday.

Sensex surges 325 points, Nifty crosses 8,200-mark on positive global cues

The benchmark BSE Sensex soared by 325 points to trade above the 27,000 level on Friday following a flurry of buying by investors amid strong Asian trends.
The 30-share index, which had lost 190.04 points in the previous, rebounded by 325.38 points, or 1.21%, to 27,171.19 points.
All sectoral indices led by metal, capital goods, realty and banking were in the positive zone, rising up to 1.67%.


Among gainer, Vedanta and Shree Renuka Sugar stocks were up by 7%, Gati by 6%, Hindustan Zinc by 5%.The NSE Nifty too recaptured 8,200-mark by climbing 82.60 points, or 1.01%, to 8,211.95.
Brokers said all-round buying by participants, tracking a rally at the other Asian markets following overnight gains at the Wall Street helped the indices rebound.
Global markets were firm after Federal Reserve meeting minutes raised expectations the US central bank will not hike rates any time soon.
In other markets in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rallied 1.76% while Japan's Nikkei uptick 0.78% in early trade on Friday.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.82% higher on Thursday's trade.

Sensex zooms 266 pts, Nifty above 8,000 on capital inflows

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex climbed over 266 points and the NSE Nifty regained 8,000-mark in early trade on Thursday on buying in IT, pharma and banking stocks amid a firming trend overseas.

The 30-share index surged by 266.02 points, or 1.02 per cent, to 26,420.85 points in early trade. 

The gauge had gained 537.99 points in previous two straight sessions after RBI announced bigger-than-expected rate cut of 0.50 per cent to 6.75 per cent and announced other aggressive measures in its monetary policy review on Tuesday. All the sectoral indices, led by healthcare, FMCG and banking were trading in the positive zone with gains up to 1.11 per cent. 

The National Stock Exchange's index Nifty regained the 8,000-mark by surging 54.85 points, or 0.69 per cent to, 8,003.75. 

Brokers said sentiments turned bullish after RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan sprang a surprise by announcing a biggest-than-expected interst rate cut of 0.50 per cdent to 6.75, lowest in four-and-half-years to boost country's economic growth. 

Besides, a firming trend at other Asian markets following overnight gains on the Wall Street as investors bought recent beaten-down stocks boosted sentiments, they said. 

Japan's Nikkei moved up by 1.74 per cent in early trade Thursday, while financial markets in Hong Kong and China are closed on Thursday for a public holiday. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.47 per cent higher in Wednesday's trade.

Sensex zooms 266 pts, Nifty above 8,000 on capital inflows

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex climbed over 266 points and the NSE Nifty regained 8,000-mark in early trade on Thursday on buying in IT, pharma and banking stocks amid a firming trend overseas.

Sensex recoups 97 pts on positive IIP data

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex rebounded over 96 points to 25,706.87 in early trade on Monday, reversing its two-day losing trend on the back of positive IIP numbers for July.

Besides, a firming trend at other Asian markets buoyed sentiment. 

The 30-share barometer recovered 96.66 points, or 0.38 per cent, to 25,706.87, with stocks of realty, power, capital goods and PSU sectors leading the recovery. The gauge had lost 109.37 points in the previous two straight sessions. 

The NSE index Nifty recaptured the 7,800-level by recovering 21.80 points, or 0.27 per cent, at 7,811.10. 

Brokers said buying activity picked up on positive economic data as industrial production expanded at better-than-estimated 4.2 per cent in July this year compared to the same month last year as manufacturing activity and offtake of capital goods improved. 

Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.81 per cent while Japan's Nikkei was trading 0.42 per cent higher in early trade. China's Shanghai Composite index rose 0.65 per cent. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had closed 0.63 per cent higher on Friday.

Sensex ends flat ahead of factory data, closes at 25,610

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE sensex on Friday settled marginally lower by 11.96 points at 25,610.21, while the NSE Nifty inched up by 1.20 points as investors remained wary ahead of the release of factory output data.

Both the indices have recorded their first weekly gain in five weeks.

The 30-share sensex after opening in the positive zone advanced to hit day's high of 25,875.96 in early trade.

However, higher levels could not be sustained as it slipped into the red to hit a low of 25,530.41 points before settling 11.96 points or 0.05 per cent lower at 25,610.21.

On the other hand, the wider NSE Nifty managed to close 1.20 points or 0.02 per cent higher at 7,789.30 after shuttling between 7,864.85 and 7,759.90.

Metal, capital goods, auto, oil&gas and power sector stocks succumbed to profit-booking.

On weekly basis, the BSE sensex advanced by 408.31 points or 1.62 per cent, while the Nifty rose 134.25 points or 1.75 per cent, halting a four-week losing streak.

Brokers said a weak trend at other Asian markets and a lower opening in European markets also influenced sentiment.

Japan's Nikkei fell 0.19 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index shed 0.27 per cent, while China's Shanghai Composite ended 0.07 per cent higher.

Among sensex stocks, Tata Steel was the top loser by falling 3.02 per cent, followed by Vedanta 2.56 per cent.

Other losers included GAIL, Tata Motors, BHEL, Coal India, L&T, Bharti Airtel, RIL, Hindalco, Lupin, M&M, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Hero MotoCorp, ITC and ICICI Bank.

Sector-wise, metal suffered the most by falling 1.53 per cent, followed by capital goods (0.52%), oil&gas (0.32%), auto (0.29%), power (0.10%) and PSU (0.05%).

However, broader markets outperformed the sensex with small-cap index rising 0.63 per cent and mid-cap gaining 0.17 per cent.ws also weighed on market's performance.

Sensex recovers 204 points ahead of key macro data

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex recovered over 204 points in early trade on Friday on buying in select blue-chip stocks ahead of IIP and inflation data to be released later in the day amid mixed global cues.

The 30-share index rose by 204.65 points or 0.80 per cent at 25,826.82 in early trade. All sectoral indices, led by realty, PSU, oil & gas and banking, were in positive zone with gains of up to 1.25 per cent. 

The gauge had lost 97.41 points in Thursday's volatile session. The National Stock Exchange index Nifty scaled the 7,800-mark by surging 66.20 points, or 0.85 per cent, to 7,854.30. 

Stock brokers said fresh positions created by participants ahead of key economic data - industrial production (IIP) numbers for July and consumer price inflation (CPI) for August - to be released later in the day, contributed to the rise. 

Moreover, a mixed trend at other Asian bourses and overnight gains on the US markets, positively impacted sentiments, they added. 

Among Asian markets, China's main Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.09 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng up 0.68 per cent while Japan's Nikkei shed 0.05 per cent in morning trade today. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.47 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.

Sensex zooms 427 points, Nifty above 7,800 on upbeat global cues

The benchmark BSE Sensex spurted by 427 points to 25,745.15 and NSE Niftyregained the 7,800-mark in early trade today on continued across-the-board buying, tracking extended rally in global markets. 
The 30-share index, which had gained 424.06 points in the previous session, was up by 427.28 points or 1.69% to 25,745.15 with all the sectoral indices led by realty, IT, metal and bankex, were trading in positive zone.


On similar lines, the NSE Nifty, reclaimed the 7,800-mark by soaring 125.80 points or 1.64% to 7,814.05. Brokers said, widening of positions by participants, tracking extended gains in other Asian markets and overnight rally in the US on better-than-expected euro zone Q2 GDP data and hope for further market stimulus on Chinese markets, buoyed trading sentiments here. 
Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei surged 5.67 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 2.92 per cent, while Shanghai Composite index up 1.98% in early trade. 
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 2.42% higher in Tuesday's trade.

Sensex jumps 242 points; Nifty crosses 7,800 level

MUMBAI: Markets cheered the government's move to waive MAT on capital gains made by FIIs retrospectively with the benchmark BSE Sensex gaining 242 points in opening trade on buying by funds and retail investors.

The 30-share index rose by 242.93 points, or 0.94 per cent, to 25,939.37 points in early trade with all sectoral indices led by realty, consumer durables and capital goods trading in positive zone with gains up to 2.20 per cent. 

The barometer had lost 695.94 points in the previous two sessions. The wide-based Nifty of the National Stock Exchange regained the 7,800-mark by surging 76.70 points, or 0.98 per cent to 7,862.55. 

Markets recovered from Tuesday's sharp losses after government decided to that MAT should not be imposed on overseas portfolio investors retrospectively, brokers said. 

Major gainers were ITC Ltd (1.30 per cent), Sun Pharma (0.81 per cent), Axis Bank (0.80 per cent), Lupin (0.;74 per cent), TCS (0.64 per cent), RIL (0.61 per cent), Infosys (0.58 per cent), Wipro (0.21 per cent), HDFC Ltd (0.19 per cent) and Hindalco (0.07 per cent). 

Among Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.79 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell by 0.99 per cent. Shanghai Composite was trading 1.34 per cent lower in early trade. 

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 2.84 per cent in Tuesday's trade.
